در ایالات متحده آمریکا ۷۵۰۰۰ الی ۱۲۵۰۰۰ مورد هپاتیت حاد در اثر ویروس هپاتیت A در سال گزارش می شود که سالانه ۱۰۰ نفر در اثر این بیماری می میرند که هزینه ای معادل ۲۰۰ میلیون دلار به همراه دارد.
ویروس بیماری هپاتیت A از طریق مدفوع - دهانی انتشار پیدا می کند به طوریکه با خوردن غذا یا آب آلوده به این ویروس، فرد بیمار می شود.
